Here is a fast and easy 20 tips for when to use NOFOLLOW on your wordpress blog to avoid duplicate content and achieve the best rankings for your blog. Help you blog feature what is important and ignore what is repetitive.
1.Noindex nofollow the comment RSS feeds
2.Noindex nofollow the search result pages
3.Noindex nofollow the login and register pages
4.Noindex nofollow all admin pages
5.Noindex nofollow the sub pages of homepage
6.noindex nofollow author archives
7.Noindex nofollow date based archives (weekly/monthly/yearly archives)
8.Noindex nofollow tag archives. (I would recommend to keep categories index, follow and not to put same category description as meta tags for all category sub pages, let Google choose it by it’s own )
9.Add noodp, noydir tags to prevent using Dmoz & Yahoo directory description for the site.
10.Internal nofollow settings (Though Google is not very much bothered about internal nofollow now, if you keep free flow of page juice within own links, there is no harm; but still my preference is as below:) – a) Nofollow category listing on pages b) nofollow category listings on single posts c) nofollow outbound links on front page d) Nofollow the links to your tag pages e) Nofollow login and registration links f) Nofollow comments links
11.Nofollow ‘Home’ link
12.Nofollow feed link
13.In your robots.txt Disallow: /*/trackback/$, Disallow: /*/*/trackback/$, Disallow: /*/*/*/trackback/$
14.Don’t break comments to many other pages ( in your wordpress discussions settings uncheck the box “Break comments….)
15.Put canonical link relevance on site
16.In Google XML sitemap include only static pages and single posts
17.Don’t use identical meta or title tags in posts or category subpages
18.Use post excerpts in category pages & other archive pages
19.Redirect 301 for non www version of your website to www version of website or vice versa (you can do it from cPanel or manual editing your .htaccess file)
20. Move you tags to the homepage only if you choose to use them. Nofollow them or your categories pages, pick from one or the other since they will have alot of overlap.

Cool, Google sent me a free cake, a thank you note and featured me on the Google Partners North America Spotlight. The cake arrived a bit smushed, but the kids still liked it. I think this is poetic justice for all the doorway pages and spammy links I have built over the last 12+ years….

So nothing serious here. I had Memorial Day off and was in my office finishing up early on a website leaving me a lot of time to kill. So, I spent the evening shooting clips, loading up Adobe Premier CC with sites and sounds. As with all things in SEO, and often in life, getting…

A little insight on the Google Partners Video Certification exam and its’ questions. So this week I became the first in the state of North Carolina to get the newly offered Google Partners Video Advanced certification. I only mention or find this amusing since huge groups like Reach Local have not and I don’t really…
Ok, This is about a mile from our office at CGR. I am scanning street level looking for a Off Broadway shoes to pick up some new kicks. Like others, I get hooked on zooming up and down the street with the very cool Google Maps. Did you know you can look upo with Google…
Was May 5th the “Homer” update? I watch dozens of the same SERPS day after day for years. One part of this obsession is that I am all about routine, the second is that everything you learn from needs benchmarks. If you don’t know every domain in the top 30-40 results you also won’t be…
I have always preached the value of experiencing SEO for yourself before you preach. All good SEO or conversion types learn quickly that any information without substantial grounds for such belief is counterproductive and in some cases maybe purposely misleading. I had told an up and coming SEO strategist once to pick some SERPS that…
This week has been filled with heavy hitters in SEO and digital marketing speaking their minds. The pace at which we get crumbs of information from Google Matt Cutts about what is not permitted has gone up and past a tipping point it seems. Operating in secrecy is understandably an important part of the search…
If anyone looked at the bottom of this blog they would see the shiny new Google Partner Agency badge I am sporting. While I have always made a point of holding whatever certification our industry has offered as a point of principle, the agency partner is the newest and most important. To achieve the new…

Reading a very old MOZ post on eye tracking studies regarding pizza searches, I felt like I was seeing some conclusions that got glossed over or left out. Much of the eye tracking opinion surrounded the visuals on the page and what appears draw the human eye by how it contrasts to the page itself….
