Are we a company for hire? Yes, kind of. Are we home to the most handsome SEO online?
for sure.
Are we actual professionals, corporate, self-employed, small business and acedemic teachers who really know marketing?
Ditto.
The problem with an SEO company for hire is there are a few types and not many that I would recommend personally.
I truly believe SEO is a snake oil of sorts filled with rainmakers.
Pay me now and I’ll make changes that will make you rank way better and you will be swinging in a hottub filled with cash by the month’s end.
So you pay the SEO firm, and a month passes.
If the on-page changes they promised show some growth, they will document it in such a way that it appears more significant than it is. They will talk about topics you don’t know in terms of definate facts. This is a field with very few definate facts, so this is a warning sign.
You will be conviced they did well, and you will be somewhat pleased.
Or, this scenerio is version B, you dont see much growth and the topic changes to your need for a “long term strategy”.
The proposals will be link building, submitting articles with “quality content” to “authority sites”.
Did I leave any buzz words out? are you hyponotized yet into buying a $5 bottle of Dr. Maguilicutty’s hair tonic?
Most of what you will be peddled is cookie cutter SEO and is generally not a bad idea. These things are also things you could learn in a one page article on SEO Tips.
Proper on page design is key, and off page linking and getting content that will cause others to link on your behalf are great things and important, but again not as complex as you will be sold they are.
You are not a cookie cutter siteowner, and the skill comes from seeing what you have in place and spotting the weaknesses in your approach. What is the end result you are looking for from each customer? How easy is it for users to join you on social sites? What are you doing with the valuable fans you have.
Adwords, adsense revenue to counter you site costs, Facebook marketing, smart placement of social buttons, Twitter marketing, an on site blog that feeds all social sites automatically, a YouTube presence and branding your videos in a way that creates a long term soucre of customers and clicks, Local search, Craigslist, Backpage, 43 things, Squidoo?
Do you think the SEO who is pitching you has worked with and created huge traffic in all of these ways?
Is the rainmaker talking about expanding your site to target more keywords with dynamic pages? or is he just talking about adding keyword to the disfunctional pages you already have?
There is no google how to seminar that in 6 hours gives 9 years of actually testing online experience.
If you want someone to read the latest press release from google or repeat what he heard on an anonymous forum post, gets yourself some books on tape.
If you want eyes that have looked at the source code for thousands of sites.
If you want someone who has built thousands of websites with the sole goal of ranking them and learning from them…
then read about us, contact us, say hi to us on Webproworld, Digitalpoint or BHW where we are all active in the latest tricks of the trade.
We don’t want to take your money, we make money by being good as SEO, it’s a given for anyone who isn’t all talk.
We want you as our audience and in time we’ll find a way to work with every person we come in contact with, clients and peers alike.
